The Japanese Acer, also known as the Japanese Maple, is a family of deciduous ornamental trees, which are grown for their stunning foliage. The leaves produce brilliant autumnal colours.

Looking for a special ornamental Japanese Maple? Take a look at our mature Japanese Acer trees generally between 20 and 40 years old. Each individual tree has its own distinct character and shape and is sold individually.

The Acers are native to Asia, predominantly Japan, North Korea, South Korea and China. It was mainly the Japanese horticulturalists who developed Acers and Acer cultivars over the centuries. Japanese Acers were first introduced to the UK in the 1800’s and have been a feature ever since – prized for the colour of the foliage and their delicate forms.

Acers are slow growing plants and trees and often develop a dome like architectural form when mature. Japanese Maples will add a delicate oriental tone to your English garden. Most of our Acers are upwards of 10 years in age examples include The delicate appearance dome shapes of the Acer Palmatum Dissectum Tall, the Acer Palmatum with its bushy upright appearance changing red, gold, and orange in the autumn, the Acer Palmatum Chitoseyama one of the very best colour changes of vibrant reds in the autumn, The Coral bark maple Acer Palmatum Sango Kaku prized for it's bright red stems which are particularly bright in the coldest winter months, and Acer Palmatum Bloodgood - the perfect size for residential gardens with stunning foliage colour.

New Acers this year include the beautiful variegated Acer Shirazz which is a brand new variety developed in New Zealand and the very elegant foliage of compact Acer Shaina, Acer Palmatum Shirasawanum Aureum a vibrant golden/yellow throughout the year and Acer Palmatum Shishigashira which has the most unusual shaped foliage and brilliant colour change in autumn

Acers are slow growing but we have some taller varieties upwards of 2m height and some up to 4m height including Acer Palmatum Sango Kaku, Acer Palmatum Aconitifolium, Acer Palmatum Vitifolium, Acer Bloodgood Japanese Maple, and Acer Palmatum

Small to Medium varieties include Acer Palmatum Dissectum – delicate appearance mound forming lime green Acer changing to orange/bronze, Acer Fireglow new foliage growth fire red and Acer Katsura green to bronze to gold always an interest.
