Plants For Acidic Soil

Acers, Magnolias, Camellias & Rhododendrons

Plants that either prefer or will tolerate acid soil are sometimes known as ericaceous plants. Acid soil has a pH of 6 or below. The soil can range from slightly acidic (6) to truly acidic soil (1) through this pH range.

Acid loving plants include some of the showiest and best loved Spring shrubs including Magnolias, Camellias, Azaleas and Rhododendrons as well as Japanese Acer trees. 
If you have alkali soil - don't worry - you can still grow these beautiful shrubs as most of these will thrive when container grown - or you can create an ericaceous bed using specialist ericaceous compost, just be sure to keep them well watered.
