Our collection of Acer Dissectum feathered trees have striking feathery green leaves and have spectacular autumn colour, making this variety of Japanese Maple a must-have tree for your garden. Our Acer Dissectum trees are already very mature plants and have many charmingly twisted stems and are almost bonsai-like in structure.
A relatively small deciduous japanese maple, Acer dissectum Feathered grows to an approximate width of 1 to 2 metres. Exceptionally slow growing, it may take ten years or longer before the tree reaches its full height potential. Its slow growth and small size make it a perfect container tree on a balcony or patio. As it grows, it forms an eye-catching mound of foliage with arching branches. The finely dissected leaves create an excellent focal point in any landscape. Many people believe that the tree’s leaves resemble feathers fluttering in the breeze.
Acer Dissectum Feathered grows well in humus rich soil in sun or dappled shade. Ideally, choose a somewhat sheltered planting location if grown in an area with chilly winter winds. For optimum growth, keep the soil around tree moist but not overly wet. When planting, it is recommended that you spread several centimeters of mulch around the base of the tree to help the soil retain moisture.
Acer dissectum Feathered requires no pruning to thrive. However, if a branch does become broken or diseased it should promptly be trimmed off the tree and discarded. Many people also opt to clip and maintain the tree in a bonsai-like appearance.
