We adore the luscious blooms of Camellias which are some of our best-selling evergreen shrubs at Paramount Plants. Camellia Japonica RL Wheeler is one of the new varieties we have for sale this year, selected for the quality of the plants and the fabulous hot pink flowers that appear in early Spring. Camellia RL Wheeler has unusual anemone shaped flowers with an open yellow centre. These gorgeous blooms will simply cover the shrub from March right through until April.
Like most Camellias it prefers a shady or dappled shade - remember these are woodland shrubs and will thrive in well drained acid soil. If you intend to plant directly into the border or against a wall - choose a sheltered spot - Camellias don't like cold winds and do add some ericaceous soil around the roots when planting.

Our Camellias are quality specimens at reasonable prices, RL Wheeler will eventually grow to a height of 4m and a spread of 2.5m (after 15-20 years). Camellias are slow growing and will grow extremely well in patio containers.They also make a really stunning flowering evergreen hedge.

Camellia Japonica R L Wheeler is more of a hot pink than a reddish pink. The open flower has a mass of pale yellow stamens at the centre, surrounded by a delightful ruffle of smaller petals. These striking flowers have contributed to this variety being awarded the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit). One of the more unusual Camellias, yet we've managed to get a regular stock of quality premium shrubs of this variety. Bush shaped and 70-80cm (2ft 3-2ft 7) high, these are already at the flowering stage. Camellia Japonica R L Wheeler will grow well in a planter and is a lovely feature on a terrace or patio.
