Camellia Sasanqua Cleopatra White

Camellia Sasanqua - this variety is known as Cleopatra White, producing a prolific and showy display of lightly fragrant white flowers in the autumn and winter. An evergreen, Camellia Sasanqua Cleopatra White can be grown as a shrub and ornamental specimen plant and rarely, they are available as 'standard trees' which are fabulous when used as above hedge screening, particularly above a lowish evergreen hedge.  

Camellias are native to China and Japan and Sasanqua derives mainly from a species native to southern Japan. Camellia Sasanqua have glossy dark green foliage which can be lightly pruned to shape. The Camellia Sasanqua species of camellia tend to form a large shrub or small tree. Sasanqua have dense evergreen foliage and tend to flower in autumn and winter as opposed to spring. 

Camellia Sasanqua Cleopatra White is actually a white sport of the pale pink flowering hybrid Camellia Sasanqua Cleopatra, which is already a very free flowering Sasanqua. It is autumn flowering like most sasanquas.

Like all Camellias, Cleopatra White likes well-drained soil preferably acidic. They are happy in planters as they are fairly slow growing.
