Cupressus Sempervirens Agrimed or Italian Cypress Agrimed
Evergreen Conifer Cupressus Sempervirens Agrimed is a special variety of Italian or Pencil Cypress. While retaining all the remarkable qualities of the parent, this cultivar was bred specifically to be resistant to cypress canker. Treasured for its outstanding resilience and attractive appearance, Italian Cypress Agrimed is at its best when planted en masse.
The Agrimed cultivar has rich dark green, scale-like foliage borne in dense sprays. The evergreen foliage adds texture and year-round interest to the landscape. This cultivar produces very small, round to oblong conifers.
Vigorous and undemanding, this columnar conifer can successfully adapt to various conditions. Plant it in moist but well-drained soil, in full sun to part shade, to ensure best performance. Rarely affected by any pests or diseases, this cultivar is also drought resistant, once established. As it tolerates salt, Cupressus Sempervirens Agrimed is an excellent candidate for coastal gardens.
Unlike most Italian Cypress cultivars, the Agrimed variety is a very hardy tree, even when planted young. Although more robust than its close relatives, Italian Cypress Agrimed will appreciate a sheltered location in the garden. This cultivar can survive even if the winter temperatures drop to 15 degrees below zero, and it is fully hardy in the United Kingdom.
With a columnar habit, Cupressus Sempervirens Agrimed can achieve a maximum height of 20 to 25 metres. This variety has a naturally fastigiated form with a broader base. Easy to grow and to care for, this elegant conifer is an excellent choice for a low-maintenance hedge. It requires no pruning to stay in shape and keep its narrow, upright form.
The ease of maintenance, excellent performance, and striking appearance are the most noteworthy traits of the Italian Cypress Agrimed. At the same time, these qualities are precisely what makes this cultivar a perfect candidate for mass planting, whether as a hedge, privacy screen, or for lining walkways. Its lovely columnar habit and evergreen foliage add structural value to the landscape, as well as decorative interest.
