Thuja Smaragd White Cedar Pencil Cypress
These beautiful Thuja Smaragd Pencil Cypress specimens have been clipped and trained into an Italian pencil cypress style tree. With their naturally upright, slender and conical growth habit, Thuja Smaragd White Cedar does closely resemble the classic Italian pencil Cypress except that Thuja Smaragd is much hardier than the Mediterranean native pencil cypress and therefore very well suited to the UK climate. These trees are ideal if you are looking to achieve that Mediterranean feel, even in very exposed areas.
Evergreen and slow growing, Thuja Smaragd Pencil Cypress (Smaragd meaning Emerald in German) has beautiful glossy green foliage all year round. The foliage has a wonderful pineapple scent.
Thuja Smaragd grows well in full sun on rich soil that drains well. Fully hardy, these slender pencil shaped trees will reach a maximum height over 20 years of 3 to 4 metres.
Our pencil cypress style Thuja Smaragd trees are mature, already standing well over 2 metres tall (excluding the pot). They look particularly impressive when planted in pairs, framing a doorway, entrance or seating area for example. They work well in formal as well as more informal gardens. White Cedar Pencil Cypress can be grown in containers – and tall and slender as they are, will be an elegant addition to any patio or terrace.
