Pot Size Guide

Customers often ask us here at Paramount Plants for the size of the pot their new plant is planted in so they know the depth and width required for digging the correct hole in the ground for planting their newly purchased plants or trees.

Ideally, the hole will be dug at the time of planting (on arrival of your plants) as if the hole is dug too quickly the soil in the hole can dry out.  However, we appreciate some customers need to prepare, to a certain extent in advance.

Below are guidelines depending on the size of the plant or tree you are purchasing from us.

When digging the hole you should allow for around 30% increase in the pot size for depth and width so for example a 20 litre pot is 34cm diameter x 27cm depth - the planting hole should be around 44cm diameter x 35cm depth.  The same calculation can be used if repotting into a larger pot on arrival.

The sizing is estimated but this will give a guideline and we have used a garden spade to show the scale reference
