Thuja Brabant Hedging
Thuja Occidentalis Brabant, also known as White Cedar Brabant, is an ideal choice for evergreen hedging or windbreaks. Highly tolerant of strong winds and all types of soil, this fuss-free conifer will adapt to most conditions, including partial shade, without a problem. Thuja Brabant is visually quite similar to the popular Leylandii cultivar, but it is easier to keep in check, due to its slower growth rate. Additionally, when compared to Cypress, Thuja Brabant responds much better to pruning and clipping, as they renew and keep their light green leaves.
The dense, vivid green foliage is the most noteworthy quality of White Cedar Brabant. The lush greenery this cultivar brings to the garden will offer interest throughout the year, and the attractive light green shade of the foliage only enhances the tree’s outstanding appearance. To boot, the scale leaves release a very pleasant pineapple fragrance as they are cut during trimming, adding to this variety’s appeal.
Height and Spread of Thuja Brabant
Although White Cedar Brabant is slower growing than Leylandii, it is still a vigorous cultivar ideal for instant hedges. Fully mature, this evergreen variety can grow to be 4 to 5 metres high, with a width of 2.5 to 3 metres.
How Hardy Is Thuja Brabant
Thuja Brabant is fully hardy in the UK and performs remarkably well in our climate. As a testament to its good constitution and resistance, this conifer won the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.
How To Use Thuja Brabant
White Cedar Brabant is one of the most sought-after conifers for hedging and evergreen screening. The dense, rich foliage that retains its bright colour throughout seasons makes it ideally suited to offer privacy in your garden, in addition to the stunning visual interest. However, while thuja hedging might be the most common use for these varieties, there are many ways you can landscape with Thuja Brabant.
How To Care For Thuja Brabant
Easy to grow and to care for, White Cedar Brabant does not need much to flourish. Plant it in full sun to partial shade, in any soil that has good drainage. This variety responds well to pruning, but it will not need extensive clipping to stay in good shape: a trim once a year will keep it looking its best.
