Acer Palmatum Dissectum Viridis or Japanese Maple Viridis
The Acer Palmatum Dissectum Viridis is commonly referred to as the Japanese Maple Viridis. The delicate deciduous shrub or small tree grows in an eye-catching mounding growth habit with lacy green foliage. In the autumn months, the Japanese Maple Viridis produces brilliant fall colours in outstanding hues that are sure to make any landscape a showstopper.
Not overly large, the Acer Palmatum Dissectum Viridis is a popular choice for small or large gardens. It grows to a height of about 3 metres and forms a mound of cascading wispy foliage that also measures about 3 metres in width when fully grown. It requires no pruning and very little care to flourish. When let grow naturally, the tree forms a large weeping mound. However, many people enjoy pruning the tree into bonsai type shapes to create unique garden focal points.
The delicate foliage of the Acer palmatum dissectum Viridis is mint green in colour and measures about 7 centimeters in length. The foliage of the Japanese Maple Viridis tends to be much brighter in green colouration than other dissectum varieties. Each leaf is divided into 7 to 10 individual lobes which gives the tree its’ wispy appearance. In the autumn months, the tree’s foliage starts to turn to a mixture of yellow to burnished orange and then develops into red hues.
Japanese Maples generally prefer to be planted in full sunlight in the mornings and partial shade in the afternoon. For optimum growth, this Acer enjoys slightly acidic, moist soil conditions that is well-draining. During particularly warm summers, the tree appreciates a layer of mulch to keep its’ roots cool and help the soil retain moisture. It does not tolerate periods of drought well so requires regular watering to thrive.
Acer Palmatum Dissectum Viridis is a popular tree-type shrub to plant beside ponds, water features, or as an understory shrub beneath larger trees that provide dappled shade. The Japanese Maple’s small size allows it to be an ideal container shrub beside patios or walkways. Its’ versatility, ease of care, and compact size makes this Japanese Maple an excellent addition for any size garden.
