Buddleja Rocketstar Flamingo Butterfly Bush

Buddleja Rocketstar Flamingo is a new deciduous dwarf buddleja shrub that reaches just 60 cms height. It has full-sized butterfly-magnet pink flowers in summer and it’s ideal in plant containers or a sunny flowerbed.

Buddleja or the Butterfly Bush is native to China and Japan but it’s naturalized here in the UK after it was introduced back in the 1890s. There are many types of buddleja and they’re a familiar sight in British gardens, but Buddleja Rocketstar Flamingo is a new extremely low-growing cultivar from the Proven Winners range bred for its captivating full-size blooms on a compact size bush.

It produces large vibrant flamingo pink flowers from June until around September that are incredibly popular with pollinators and especially attractive to butterflies that can easily access nectar from the multitude of tiny blooms that make up a flowerhead. Although it has large flowerheads, Buddleja Rocketstar Flamingo is neat and compact. It doesn’t get tall and leggy like some common buddleja if it’s not trimmed back. Rocketstar Flamingo requires little or no maintenance to maintain its size.

Butterfly Bush Rocketstar Flamingo grows best in full sun or partial shade and copes with a variety of soils including chalk if it’s well-drained.
Unlike some other buddleja varieties, Rocketstar Flamingo doesn’t need pruning to manage its height, but you can cut away dead or damaged branches or trim it back in early spring if necessary. Regular deadheading throughout the summer encourages more blooms, keeping its vibrant flower display bright for months on end.

In late winter to early spring a thick layer of organic matter around the roots will boost its health and help trap moisture in the growing season.
