Euonymus Japonicus Kathy or Japanese Spindle Bush Kathy is a very attractive evergreen shrub, with striking variegated leaves of deep green, tinged with white splashes and creamy edges which is perfect for ground cover or for hedging. Also known as the Japanese Spindle Bush, Euonymus Kathy is easy to grow and maintain and will tolerate exposed positions and for this reason is very popular in coastal or windy areas.
Very adaptable, Euonymus Kathy is great for underplanting and will give excellent ground cover in partial shade - really brightening up areas under trees or large shrubs. Kathy also works well as a relatively medium sized hedging plant - the contrasting colours and fairly low habit make it the perfect accompaniment for tiered hedging when matched to a high darker green evergreen such as Yew.
Euonymus Japonicus Kathy will grow to around 2 metres tall at maturity but does tolerate clipping and trimming well so you can keep this shrub at any height you wish with just a couple of trims per year. The main clip should be in May - trim the main shoots to shape and then follow up with a light tidy trim around September / October time.
