Euonymus Japonicus Ovatus Aureas is an evergreen shrub with broad oval shaped leaves that are bright yellow when young and become green with time. The fruits are pink while the flowers are tiny and green. The flowers bloom during summer and the fruits during autumn.
The Japanese spindle is perfect for garden borders, low hedge screens, groundcover, or pathways. It can be combined with other shrubs for hedging or as a standalone plant. The plant responds well to pruning and can be maintained to a moderate height. The average growth rate per year ranges from 20 to 40 centimetres. Make sure you trim the main shoots of the Japanese spindle in May and September to preserve the bushy look. Ideally, the plant should be grown with full or partial sun exposure.
The Japanese Spindle grows well with full exposure to the sun, which makes the leaves look more attractive. Nevertheless, it does fairly well in partial shade. This plant is resistant to exposed, coastal, and windy conditions and can grow well on coastal conditions. It should be grown on moist and well-drained soils, and requires minimal maintenance. Although the Japanese Spindle can grow up to two meters tall, it should be trimmed regularly.
Before planting the Euonymus Japonicus Ovatus Aureas, first water the plant when it is still in the pot. Find a suitable spot with partial shade and dig a hole for the plant. The depth and width of the hole should be about two times the size of the pot. Add compost to the base of the hole and then place the plant inside the hole. Using a mixture of compost and the soil, refill the hole making sure you firm it. Water the plant to make the soil settle. Keep watering the plant regularly for the rest of the year.
