Euonymus Japonicus Marieke has a number of synonyms - Euonymus Marieke, Japanese Spindle Bush and Ovatus Aureus are all names that are commonly used for this beautiful evergreen variegated shrub. The distinctive leaves are coloured green and yellow and give the shrub a very warm sunny appearance.
Euonymus is a very useful shrub, as it is very easy to grow and maintain and can be grown in full sun or partial shade. With its low growing habit this is a good shrub for underplanting and placing in partially shady corners to really brighten them up. The leaf colour is a sunny yellow and green when the foliage is just emerging and these develop into a deep buttery yellow colour.
At maturity this shrub can attain a height of 2.5 metres by 4 metres with a spread of 1.5 metres to 2.5 metres.
The acceptance of a sheltered or exposed site makes Euonymus Marieke a favourite for growing in windy, coastal areas. If you are designing a two or three tiered hedge, this is a very attractive choice for the middle tier.
