A beautiful warm copper coloured ornamental grass that is fully hardy in the UK climate. Leatherleaf Sedge, as it is commonly known is an evergreen, perennial grass. Leatherleaf sedge forms an attractive mound of densely fine leaves with an arching, clump forming habit. Carex Buchananii will happily grow in full sun or partial shade but it does need a sheltered spot and avoid planting in a north facing aspect.
Originating from New Zealand, Carex Buchananii is a very striking addition to our UK gardens, It is especially useful to plant with contrasting coloured grasses or flowering perennials in the border. The copper coloured foliage changes through the season, becoming a darker almost chocolatey brown in the autumn when the creamy coloured flower spikes add another beautiful dimension.
