Carex Oshimensis Evergold

Carex Oshimensis Evergold also known as Japanese Sedge is an evergreen ornamental grass, prized for its spectacular variegated foliage and exceptional hardiness. Offering multiple seasons of interest, this striking cultivar is a great choice for accenting shrubs or underplanting trees.
Evergreen sedge plants are hardy clumps of low growing, slender long-arching leaves with a glowing gold band between green margins. Brown flower spikes are inconspicuous and appear in the summer. Carex Evergold has a tufted habit and stays compact even when fully mature, with ultimate height and width up to 50 centimetres. With a moderate growth rate a clump-forming habit, this Japanese Sedge Grass is not considered invasive.

When choosing the perfect spot for Japanese Sedge, make sure you plant this ornamental grass in moist but well-drained, fertile soil. Although it can thrive in partial shade, the striped, variegated foliage has better color when grown in full sun.

Although it offers year-round decorative value in your garden, Carex Oshimensis Evergold needs little in return. Easy to grow and to care for, this tufted sedge requires almost no pruning to keep its flowing, striking shape. Just remove any dead or damaged leaves in the summer, and this cultivar will flourish.

Same as other Japanese Sedges, Carex Evergold is remarkably robust. Generally pest and disease free, this evergreen ornamental grass can easily survive even in the severest European climates, without needing shelter from biting winds or frost. This sedge is fully hardy in all of the United Kingdom. Carex Oshimensis Evergold also won the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens.

Versatile and highly decorative, Carex Evergold is often used to complement flowering borders with its evergreen foliage, or to hide unseemly patches of land as a ground cover. As it has a year-round interest, this ornamental grass adds texture and colour to your garden throughout the seasons.
