click to view this plant size >Berberis X Ottawensis Purpurea Superba Barberry, is a deciduous, vigorous-growing shrub that has oval deep red-purple leaves. The flowers are a light yellow that look amazing against the red background of the foliage. The flowers are followed by red berries on the the arching branches. The leaves in autum will turn an even brighter red. A beautiful specimen that will add beautiful colour in the garden from spring right through until autum.
Berberis x Ottawensis Purpurea is a cross between the Japanese Berberis Thunbergii and European Berberis Vulgaris. As a result, it is a more vigorous grower and a larger plant than the thunbergii varieties. It is best loved for its spectacular, standout foliage.
To give Berberis x Ottawensis Purpurea 'superba’ a more formal appearance, simply keep it trimmed. You can plant it as a focal point on the terrace or in the garden or use it to create a spectacular hedge.
