Wisteria Floribunda Macrobotrys (Japanese Lilac Wisteria)
Wonderful Wisteria Floribunda Macrobotrys or Japanese Lilac Wisteria is probably one of the best varieties of Wisteria to have in the garden with its hanging lilac sweet-scented flowers and vibrant green foliage that emerge in spring. The racemes (floral stalks) on this deciduous climber can reach from 60 cm to a massive 1 metre long! Imagine the spectacular display this creates when this climber is in bloom with long hanging chains of lilac flowers.
Macrobotrys is the longest chained of all the Wisteria. So when it hangs down the side of the house, wall or trellis it looks amazing with its long chains of flowering purple lilac creating a dazzling display. Wisteria Floribunda Macrobotrys is also quite the showstopper when trained over a pergola or along a trellis.
Although apparently not as fast growing as its Chinese cousin, Japanese Lilac Wisteria still it grows quite quickly covering a surprising amount of ground over 10 years, reaching a max height of 6 to 8 metres.
