This is a fabulous variety of Viburnum, a native to the UK found in hedgerows or woodlands so they will happily grow in shady spots.
This vibrant berry bearing shrub will provide great interest in the garden throughout the seasons. Viburnum Opulus is a highly decorative, flowering, deciduous shrub and this 'Compactum' variety is utterly suitable for small to medium sized gardens. The leaves are deep green with an unusual palmate shape with deep lobes that are similar to maple. The prolific white flowers appear in late Spring, these are huge, flat, lacecap blooms which become pure white as they mature, these are rapidly followed by attractive bright berries which turn a brilliant shiny red. These are loved by thrushes and finches in particular and provide much needed food for a variety of birds in the autumn when the leaves also turn a beautiful shade of red.
