Rosa Crimson Shower, also called Rose Crimson Shower is a Rambling Rose and has been a favourite of UK gardeners for more than half a century. This prolifically flowering rambler rose will delight with its red blooms throughout the summer!
Bred in the UK in 1951, the Crimson Shower variety of Rambling Rose is a relatively low-maintenance cultivar suitable for training on fences or pergolas. Rosa Crimson Shower has glossy green leaves from spring to autumn, providing a backdrop for the profusion of double crimson flowers, up to 5 cm across, that cover the arching stems of this rambler rose from July through to September. The yellow stamens at the centre are accented with a flash of white. The roses have a slight, pleasant fragrance.
Hardy in all of the UK and northern Europe, Rose Crimson Shower will grow to a mature height of 1.5-2.5 metres and spread of 2.5- 4 metres in 5 to 10 years. Prune and train after flowering has finished, as they flower on wood from the previous year. Cut back all the stems that had flowers to an unflowered shoot, while leaving growth from the current season intact. Horizontal stems will produce more blooms than vertical ones. With few thorns, Rosa Crimson Shower is easy to work with!
Plant Rambling Rose in full sun or partial shade with any aspect in an exposed or sheltered position. It will grow in any moist but well-drained soil, which should be enriched liberally with organic matter when planting. A thick layer of mulch should be re-applied every spring. Rosa Crimson Shower is tolerant of shade, and is a rose that will do well even facing north. Deer resistant, it is a good choice for country gardens.
Like all rambler roses, Rosa Crimson Shower is an ideal candidate for training up garden structures, and can even be left to climb into trees. Clothe a pergola with this prolific bloomer, or train it up a trellis against a wall. It can be grown as a ground cover across a difficult patch of ground if left without support. Supported on wires, a row of Rambling Roses will make an informal flowering hedge with considerable appeal. Space the bushes 1.5 – 2 metres apart.
Free-flowering from July to September, Rosa Crimson Shower will delight with its red roses! You will find many spots for this exuberant rambler rose in your garden! Lots more rambling and climbing roses in our collection of climbing plants.
