Rosa Bobbie James Rambling Rose
The Rosa Bobbie James, also referred to as the Rose Bobbie James, is an extremely vigorous rambling rose that will easily attain a height of 10 metres with a width of 8 metres. It boasts long, arching stems that spread out over fences, hedges, trees, garden structures, pergolas, walls, and trellises. It has the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Starting in the spring, the Rose Bobbie James produces an outstanding display of creamy-white flowers that are semi-double. The middle of each flower features eye-catching yellow stamens that are exceptionally bright. The flowers appear in clusters. Each bloom has five petals and measures five centimeters wide. The blossoms are exceptionally fragrant with a sweet aroma that lingers in the garden during the evening and early morning hours. Butterflies adore the abundant blooms of this Rambling Rose. Following flowering, reddish or purplish hips appear that are a favourite food source for birds and other woodland creatures. The fruits are very showy and create visual interest, especially in the autumn and early winter months. This rambler’s foliage is mint green and pointed. The leaves appear glossy and are exceptionally dense so they create a natural visual privacy screen which makes the rambler ideal to hide an unsightly garden structure or fence during the spring, summer and autumn months.
Rosa Bobbie James grows best and produces the most abundant flowers when grown in a sunny location. However, the rambler will tolerate partial shade but should receive at least six hours of sunlight per day to prevent leggy growth, diminished flower production, and powdery mildew. Choose a location that features well-draining soil. This rambling rose likes fertile, organically rich soil. After planting, keep the soil evenly moist to encourage a diverse root system. Once established, the rambler can tolerate short periods of drought. During the late summer months, prune the Rose Bobbie James lightly to maintain size or shape. If the rambler requires more extensive pruning, it should be done in the early winter months.
Rosa Bobbie James was first introduced to the public in 1961 and has become a beloved rambling rose worldwide. It is heralded for its robust flower production, vigorous growth, and reliability. If you are seeking a carefree rambler that is sure to draw much admiration then you won’t be disappointed with this white beauty.
