Prunus serrulata Sunset Boulevard Japanese Cherry
Prunus Serrulata Sunset Boulevard, also known as the Japanese Cherry Sunset Boulevard is a deciduous tree that was first bred in late 1980s by Kalmthout Arboretum in Belgium. This ornamental Japanese cherry has become a popular street tree throughout the United Kingdom.
This ornamental cherry tree was originally created to be a street tree and grow in a columnar fashion. However, it actually forms an oval shape as it ages. During the spring, it produces a bevy of single flowers that appear in shades of white with a slight pinkblush. The flowers open mid-spring and always attract a wide array of honey bees. The new foliage is also visually interesting because it appears in shades of copper. In the autumn, the foliage turns orange-red.
