A dwarf variety of Ninebark, Physocarpus Opulifolius Little Devil is a deciduous shrub prized for its stunning, dark foliage. Compact and undemanding, this spectacular ornamental shrub is ideal for gardens with limited space or for container gardening. The shallowly lobed leaves of this deciduous shrub emerge purplish-red in the spring, maturing to deep burgundy. The dark foliage is accentuated by small corymbs of blush pink flowers that appear in late spring. The delicate flowers give way to dark red fruits that remain on the shrub for several months. In the winter, when Little Devil Ninebark is bare, young, crimson red stems and the attractive peeling bark of the old growth offer interest. 

Bred in the United States, this cultivar possesses all the noteworthy qualities of its larger relatives, the difference between them being its size and its resistance to powdery mildew. Unlike other Ninebark varieties, Little Devil doesn’t take up too much space. This hybrid can live up to 30 years in optimal conditions, without ever exceeding its ultimate height and spread of 1 to 1.5 metres. Although petite, Little Devil is incredibly resilient and robust and can survive in any soil. Tolerant of wide range of conditions, this ornamental shrub will appreciate well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, although it won’t mind if the conditions are less than ideal. 
Able to withstand even the severest European climates, Little Devil Ninebark is fully hardy in Britain and Ireland. Virtually indestructible, this showy shrub won’t need sheltering from frost, and is generally pest and disease free. When it comes to maintenance, this fuss-free shrub doesn’t need regular pruning or trimming. Apart from the routine removal of dead or damaged twigs in the fall, the upright, compact habit requires no additional effort to stay in perfect shape.
