Lonicera Nitida Baggesen's Gold or more commonly known as Golden Boxleaf Honeysuckle is a most attractive evergreen with lovely small neat leaves. This particular variety Baggesen's Gold has beautiful golden coloured foliage, particularly the new growth. If grown in shadier spots, the foliage can take on more of a green-golden hue.
Golden Boxleaf Honeysuckle is as much prized for its eye catching colour as for its elegant, arching growth habit with the stems forming in a layered structure. The small shapely (egg shaped) leaves grow in orderly pairs on opposite sides of the stem, also an attractive feature.
Lonicera Nitida Baggesen's Gold is unusual in that it is a plant that combines small foliage (e.g. tiny leaves) with bright standout colouring. And the sunnier the spot, the brighter the colour of the foliage. Left to its own devices, its natural growth habit is stems arching upwards and outwards and then down, in a graceful and feather like manner. It does produce small white flowers in spring.
Lonicera Nitida Baggesen's Gold is native to china. It works well in coastal areas due to its tolerance of saltiness. Due to its dense habit, it can also be grown as an attractive low hedge.
