Laurus Nobilis is commonly known as Bay Leaf Tree or Sweet Bay. The leaves of this tree are renowned for their fragrance and are widely used in cooking to enhance the flavours of many dishes.
This variety has been trained into the traditional Full Standard Shape, which works well as a pair on either side of an entrance doorway.
Originating from the Mediterranean the Bay Laurel is a large evergreen tree that can grow to a height of 40 feet. However, it is easily kept to it's topiarised shape with a twice-yearly trim. They respond very well to hard pruning in late winter/early spring and grow at a rate of 30cm per year.
Paramount Plants is a Mediterranean Tree Specialist nursery.
Other full standard (clear stem) trees include photinia red robin
and Ligustrum Japonicum Trees.
Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens.
