Trachelospermum Jasminoides is also known as the Star Jasmine or Evergreen Jasmine or Confederate Jasmine.
This beautiful twining evergreen climber originating from China has glossy dark green leaves, turning bronze-red in winter. Pure white, heavily fragranced flowers from mid to late summer. This is the variety of Jasmine flowers that are used in perfume manufacture. Banks of this plant grow wild in the Mediterranean, particularly in the South of France - filling the air with their heady scent.
Height and Spread of Trachelospermum Jasminoides
If left unchecked, evergreen Jasmine can grow to be 4 to 8 metres high and wide. In most cases, though, this flowering climber does not grow over 5 metres in height. Here at Paramount we've sourced some unusually large specimens of over 3.5metres in height (11ft plus) these are bushy and wide and are excellent for providing evergreen screening coverage of large areas.
How Hardy is Trachelospermum Jasminoides
Star Jasmine is hardy in the United Kingdom. However, if you want your evergreen Jasmine to survive harsh winters, make sure to shelter it from harsh cold winds that could damage the foliage.
How To Use Trachelospermum Jasminoides
An evergreen Jasmine variety, Star Jasmine offers multiple seasons of interest. As a climber, it does best when trained against a structure such as a garden wall, pergola, arbour, trellis, and others. This way, you can enjoy both the floral display that is in full effect during July and August when Star Jasmine blooms, and have a privacy screen throughout the year from the glossy foliage. The perfume from the blossoms is another benefit.
How To Care for Trachelospermum Jasminoides
To make sure your Star Jasmine thrives, grow it in full sun to partial shade. The soil should be fertile and well-drained.
