Griselinia Littoralis - New Zealand Privet

Griselinia Littoralis also known as the New Zealand Privet is an excellent plant for upright dense hedging.  Griselinia likes a well-drained site and copes well in coastal exposed and windy conditions.  It has glossy apple green leaves and it makes an excellent upright hedge. The soft green leaves have a glossy finish and are oval in shape.

Griselinia Littoralis, also referred to as New Zealand Privet or New Zealand Broadleaf, flowers in May. It produces tiny yellow blooms. These are sometimes followed by small purple fruits, which are a tasty treat for birds and gives an added wildlife interest to the plant.

A Griselinia hedge will be fast growing and can average anywhere between 20 to 40 centimetres in one year. Griselina hedging is suited for inland positions as well as exposed coastal situations. Evergreen Griselinia makes a dense and lush hedge with year-round interest and screening. It provides shelter from winds and noise pollution and is ideal for seaside locations, as it has hardy foliage that can stand harsh climate conditions. 

New Zealand Privet is perfect for upright formal hedging as it can be pruned into a neat and compact shape.
