Escallonia Showstopper

Escallonia Showstopper is a new variety of evergreen lowing growing shrub. It has masses of sweet pink flowers all summer long and excellent disease resistance. It’s a great choice for low hedging and sunny balconies.

Escallonia is native to South America where it grows in a variety of difficult conditions including dry scrubland. Escallonia has been cultivated for many years and there are lots of varieties available. Escallonia Showstopper is a brand-new shrub bred by Peter Moore. It has larger flowers than other escallonia varieties in showstopping bright pink.

Escallonia Showstopper has dark glossy evergreen foliage on strong woody stems. Each flowerhead is made up of many small pink five-petalled blooms that are dark pink at the outer edge and fade to pretty pale pink in the centre. Yellow inner petals and long stamens attract lots of lovely pollinators including bumblebees that can easily access the open flowers.

This is a summer-long ball of colour for a mixed border or container in formal or relaxed low-maintenance gardens. A really versatile evergreen with stunning showstopper flowers.

Prune it back after the flowers have faded and apply a thick layer of well-rotted organic mulch to the roots in early spring to boost its flower production across summer.
