Enkianthus Perulatus or White Enkianthus is native to Japanese woodlands where it is known as Dodan-Tsutusji. This is an elegant deciduous shrub with light green ovate foliage and pure white bell-shaped flowers that emerge in late spring to early summer. Enkianthus Perulatus has a very attractive growth habit, forming a rounded compact dome. It offers further dramatic effect by turning a brilliant red-orange in autumn.
Enkianthus Perulatus (Dodan-Tsutusji) is a slow growing dome shaped shrub that can reach up to 1.5 to 2.5m height and spread over time. It loves full sun and / or partial shade and rich humus soil, but will grow well in moist but well drained fertile soil.
Because it is so slow-growing, it is very rare to find White Enkianthus in these mature sizes.
White Enkianthus is a great shrub for containers and mixed borders and because of its shape, it makes an excellent centre piece or focal point. For those Japanese garden enthusiasts among us, Enkianthus is an essential addition.
