Leylandii Castlewellan Gold – a fast growing tree, ideal for hedging which ticks all the boxes...
Part of the Leylandii family of Cypress trees, it is widely acknowledged as a perfect plant for hedging. Castlewellan Gold is fast growing (up to 60cm annually) yet can be kept trimmed to whatever height and/or shape you require, it lends itself well to regular cutting back. Testimony to this is its popular use for topiary (see Leylandii Topiary).
In spring and summer, Castlewellan Gold produces bright yellow–golden foliage, turning to more of a green-gold towards the autumn, its colouring is very vibrant.
Ideally to keep its shape, a Castlewellan Gold Hedge should be pruned at least once per year, preferably in summer. Our premium quality Leylandii Castlewellan Gold Hedging trees are circa 6 Feet tall and are ideal for evergreen screening and most general hedging requirements and can be planted in any fertile, well-drained soil. It is best to plant the trees approximately 75 cm apart.
Although these trees can reach an ultimate Height of circa 12 metres, with regular trimming, a Castlewellan Gold Leylandii hedge can be kept to virtually any height or shape, to suit your space.
Growing Tip: It’s best to trim in summer cutting back only the young shoots, these trees do not re-grow from old wood.
Leylandii Castlewellan Gold originated on the Castlewellan estate in Northern Ireland as recently as the 1960’s. Take advantage of our special offer on Castlewellan Gold trees and create an instant screen in your garden.
