Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora is a compact deciduous tree in the flowering dogwood family with abundant white flower bracts in summer. It’s one of the prettiest flowering dogwoods for woodland gardens and informal mixed borders.

Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora is a cultivar of a 3-way cross between the popular Cornus florida, Cornus kousa, and Cornus nuttallii dogwoods and as a result of this heavy mix has Cornus Rutgersensis Rutban and Cornus kousa Aurora synonyms.

Flowering Dogwood Aurora is prized for its small size and overwhelming display of showy white flowers with overlapping bracts. After warm weather, its flower bracts are so numerous they cover its dark green foliage. It has excelllent autumn colour when its leaves turn red, yellow and orange hues before falling with the frosts.

This is a highly attractive hardy small tree that puts on a staggering flower display in summer and brightens autumn with its changing leaves. A great choice for courtyards and an excllent showy tree for small gardens.

Height And Spread of Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora
Flowering Dogwood Aurora reaches a maximum height of six metres and spreads up to five metres.

How Hardy Is Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora
It’s hardy enough to withstand minus temperatures in the UK if its roots are well drained and it gets plenty of sun in summer.

How To Use Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora
Small flowering dogwood trees like Aurora are attractive additions to mixed informal borders where they have room to grow.
It’s low maintenance enough to suit woodland gardens and because it doesn’t outgrow its welcome it suits compact courtyard gardens and even balconies in large, well-watered and fed containers.

How To Care For Cornus Rutgersensis Aurora
Very little care is needed once Flowering Dogwood Aurora is established, it’s very easy to grow and gives great results for little effort.
Choose a spot in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained fertile soil. Although it tolerates an exposed spot, the best flower displays emerge in sheltered areas.
No pruning is required, but a thick layer of well-rotted mulch to its roots in spring will keep it in good health.
