About our Cherry Laurels
The botanical name for Cherry Laurel is Prunus Laurocerasus. It is well known as a fabulous plant for hedging and screening purposes. It's fast growth rate and densely populated foliage ensures that if you need year round privacy screening, then this is the hedging plant of choice.
Cherry Laurels are vigourous growers, putting on 30cm of foliage a year. They can reach a height of up to 4m in their lifetime. They respond well to pruning so are easy to keep in shape with an annual trim.
These huge, mature specimens are designed to have instant impact. Even though these are very large specimens, we're able to offer our Laurels at a great price due to their rootballed status. Grown in the ground until ready for planting, these trees are then lifted and the roots are wrapped in hessian. To plant, you just pop then in the ground, complete with the protective hessian wrap, which disintegrates naturally. The avoidance of constant re-potting creates a cost saving which we are very happy to pass on to our customers.
Cherry Laurel is very accommodating in that it will grow happily in either full sun or partial shade - one of the few hedging plants that will grow in shade. Prunus Laurocerasus produces small, fragrant white flowers on upright spikes which bloom in springtime, followed by red fruits that will eventually ripening to black. The flowers, fruits and density of the foliage make this a good choice for hedging with wildlife in mind.
