Azalea Amoena
Azalea Obtusum Amoena is an unusual cultivar - an older Kurume variety that has been so popular in European gardens because of its vibrant colours and funnel shaped, beautiful flowers which appear in early Spring.

They provide a really stunning start to the season with their magenta / purple / lilac blooms profusely covering the entire shrub.
This cultivar is commonly known as Azalea Amoena. Originating from Japan in the 1850's it has an upright growth habit with spreading branches and because of its medium growth rate, it works really well in smaller gardens or for a larger Woodland garden design.
Azaleas also work beautifully in mixed borders and Japanese style gardens. Strikingly complementing Magnolias, Camellias and Rhododendrons - producing stunning displays and they all enjoy being planted in acidic soil and flower around the same time of year.
This fabulous shrub also thrives in containers on patios, balconies and roof terraces - ideal aspect is in part-shade or full sun in free well draining soil.
The elegant evergreen foliage turns to red in the autumn - providing interest throughout the seasons.
