Acer Palmatum Deshojo (Japanese Maple Deshojo)

Acer Palmatum Deshojo (Japanese Maple Deshojo) is a slow growing, deciduous tree that will bring exciting colours to the garden from spring through to autumn.

The elegant Acer Palmatum Deshojo has five-lobed foliage that emerges a brilliant crimson red when the leaves unfurl in spring. The leaves will change to light green later on but often maintaining a reddish bronze edge. In the autumn, the leaves will change again to scarlet red.

Acer Palmatum Deshojo belongs to the shojo group of cultivars which actually means red-faced monkey. Japanese Maple Deshojo is an upright growing specimen and will make a tall shrub or a small tree. It will have a spread roughly equal to its height and will reach a maximum height of circa 3 metres. As such it is an excellent choice as an ornamental tree for smaller gardens. The name can sometimes be misspelled as Desyojo.

Japanese Maple Deshojo likes moist but well drained fertile but not chalky soil. It will enjoy a sunny or semi-shaded spot – but it should be protected from harsh winds.

Japanese Maple Deshojo is suitable for growing in containers – make sure to keep it well watered especially throughout the growing season.
