Weigela are native to eastern Asia and are named after the German scientist Christian Weigel. They were first introduced to Europe in 1845 with many more varieties transported by the Victorian plant hunters. Weigela Florida All Summer Monet is small compared to other weigela such as Bristol Ruby. Its foliage has unusual green centres with white margins and pink tips. New foliage is pinker than mature leaves though when it’s grown in full sun leaves can remain pink. In summer, bell-shaped pink flowers appear and last for months. The flowers are especially attractive to bumblebees and it holds the RHS Perfect for Pollinators badge as a result. Leaves turn yellow and fall with the frosts ready to emerge again in early spring.
