RHS Perfect for pollinators logo

Weigela Florida All Summer Monet is small, deciduous variegated weigela variety with pretty pink flowers in summer. This compact shrub suits a mixed border or can be planted in a container. It is synonymous with Weigela Florida Verweig 8.

Weigela are native to eastern Asia and are named after the German scientist Christian Weigel. They were first introduced to Europe in 1845 with many more varieties transported by the Victorian plant hunters. Weigela Florida All Summer Monet is small compared to other weigela such as Bristol Ruby. Its foliage has unusual green centres with white margins and pink tips. New foliage is pinker than mature leaves though when it’s grown in full sun leaves can remain pink. In summer, bell-shaped pink flowers appear and last for months. The flowers are especially attractive to bumblebees and it holds the RHS Perfect for Pollinators badge as a result. Leaves turn yellow and fall with the frosts ready to emerge again in early spring.

How To Use Weigela Florida All Summer Monet

It will grow in a well-watered and fed container to brighten a balcony garden or deck and suits wildlife friendly low maintenance spaces too.

How To Care For Weigela Florida All Summer Monet

Choose a spot in full sun to partial shade for the best flowers and foliage colour. Weigela All Summer Monet is not fussy about soil types growing in all soil that’s well-drained.
Weigela flowers on old wood. It’s best to prune immediately after flowering so new wood has time to grow. Remove some older stems to the ground and trim back other flowering stems by about a third.
Mulch each spring and water well until established.
