Parasol Trees – aka Roof Trees / Roof Form Trees / Topiary Parasol Trees
Introducing Parasol Trees - say goodbye to your traditional sun-umbrella and opt for a living green shade tree instead. Parasol Trees are an elegant form of specially trained roof-shaped tree creating natural sun-shade rather like a living arbor or gazebo.
However you decide to call them – roof form trees, topiary roof trees or topiary parasol trees, our parasol trees offer a living natural sun-shade that is easy to maintain. These topiary parasols make a very pretty addition to the garden or terrace. Perfect for shading your favourite seat!
Roof Form Trees - How are they made?
Parasol Trees have been carefully trained on a long clear stem with a horizontal or lateral square crown of foliage on the top, resembling a little roof or parasol. The shape is not dissimilar to our ever-popular Pleached Trees, except with pleached trees the canopy is vertical rather than horizontal and such more suited to above the fence-line screening.
In forming the Parasol Trees, the leader branches have been carefully removed so that a lateral square-shaped crown can be formed by carefully training the stems over a bamboo frame and tying down the branches to create a flat, horizontal canopy of green.
How to Use Topiary Parasol Trees
In addition to being extremely useful trees for creating shade without having to use a sun-umbrella, Parasol or Roof Shaped Trees will offer instant architectural interest and punctuation to gardens and terraces without taking up too much lateral space.
Roof Form Trees are often placed strategically about the garden or landscape, punctuating paths and walkways and overlooking little seated areas. Particularly in urban areas where the outside space can be overlooked, a parasol tree can offer natural shade to a seating area as well as much-valued privacy from neighbours. Topiary Parasol Trees can be used to great effect to create a privacy canopy over an outdoor dining area.
