Rosa Alibaba Climbing Rose
Climbing roses are loved for their gorgeous blossoms and twining thorny stems and the same is true for the showy Rosa Alibaba variety. This deciduous climbing rose is a repeat-flowering variety that produces a profusion of double flowers from around July to early September. The blossoms are a lovely apricot pink and have a pleasant fruity fragrance. The thorny stems bear leathery dark green and prickly deciduous leaves that offer a lovely contrast to the profusion of pink blossoms.
Bred in England by Chris Warner in the early 2000s, Rose Alibaba is a fairly new cultivar but it has already proven its worth. As a testament to its outstanding qualities, this lovely climbing rose received the prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Height and Spread of Rosa Alibaba
This flowering deciduous climber will grow to be around 2.5 metres tall when mature.
How Hardy is Rosa Alibaba?
A tough and resilient cultivar, Rose Alibaba is fully hardy in the United Kingdom. In fact, this climbing rose is so robust it can withstand severe winters with temperatures as low as -20 degrees Celsius.
How To Use Rosa Alibaba
Climbing roses are very ornamental and can bring both visual interest to the garden as well as a lovely fragrance that will spread through the garden and make those summer evenings even more enjoyable. Rose Alibaba is a great choice if you want a profusion of double flower fragrant roses late in the summer. Grow this climber against an unsightly wall, train it against a pergola or an arbour, or grown in a container against a trellis. Ideally, you would choose a spot near a window or your favourite sitting spot in the garden so you could enjoy the potent fruity scent of the blossoms.
How To Care For Rosa Alibaba
While it can grow either in a sheltered or an exposed location in the garden, Rose Alibaba needs a lot of sunlight to thrive, so it will require a spot in the full sun. It will do well in most soils, as long as they are moist but well-drained and rich in humus.
