Pleached Morus Alba Fruitless is a pleached deciduous mulberry tree with shiny green foliage but no fruits. It creates excellent above fence screening.
The Fruitless Mulberry is a cultivar of White Mulberry which is native to South Asia but has spread across the world. It’s a far less messy version for tree loving gardeners. In spring finely serrated bright green leaves appear. Mulberry foliage is very dense and mostly heart-shaped although ovals and lobes appear too. Foliage is accompanied by exclusively male catkins that dangle 5-6 cms and attract pollinators. These male catkins are not pollinated and no fruit is developed. In autumn its foliage turns golden yellow and falls in the wind to reveal green-grey grooved branches.
This fruitless mulberry is pleached so it has a single clear trunk and a boxed crown trained on a framework.
