It’s a low-growing plant so its perfect in a plant container on a roof terrace or as part of a mixed foliage border.
Nandina Domestica is native to eastern Asia from the Himalayas to Japan and first appeared in Europe in 1804 in a shipment from Canton, China by plant hunter William Kerr. It quickly became known as Heavenly Bamboo, however, it is not a bamboo at all but an evergreen shrub related to Berberis.
Heavenly Bamboo Blush Pink is a cultivar that originated as a sport (a naturally occurring new variety) of the popular Nandina domestica Fire Power in Texas, USA around 2004. It’s popular for its red foliage that emerges blush pink in colour and becomes rich red throughout the summer months when it’s joined by white flowers. In autumn, leaves turn a deep fiery red and eventually mature to green at winter’s end having taken a whole year to get there. Small red berries appear in autumn which are potentially toxic to pets, so this shrub should be kept away from pets that like to chew.

Water it well until established and apply a thick layer of mulch in early spring to feed it and boost the bright red shades in its growing season. Pruning is not necessary, but you can remove damaged or wayward branches after the flowers have faded.
