Malus Red Sentinel Pleached Crab Apple Tree

Introduced into the UK in the 1950s, deciduous Red Sentinel is a hybrid of a Siberian crab apple and a Chinese crab apple. It is both hardy and fruits well earning the RHS Award of Garden Merit and their Plants for Pollinators title.
In spring Malus Red Sentinel Pleached Crab Apple Tree regrows its bright green leaves which are soon followed in April by single white scented flowers that open from red buds. This tree is particularly attractive to pollinators so the flowers will mature into small bright red crab apples that hang on the branches during winter to feed the birds.

How To Care For Malus Red Sentinel Pleached
Malus Red Sentinel is a hardy, low maintenance tree that grows in the majority of soils including chalk if the roots are well-drained. It enjoys a sunny spot but will tolerate part shade as well. To keep the pleached form it will need a twice-yearly trim, tying in new stems or removing them if they outgrow the bamboo frame. There is no need to remove the bamboo framework.
Water well until established and add a thick layer of mulch to the roots once a year to provide nutrients through the growing season.
