Liquidambar Styraciflua Stared or Sweet Gum Stared
Liquidambar Stared is a deciduous tree, a colourful variety of Sweet Gum with star-shaped leaves that produce outstanding autumn colours. The unusual leaves make this cultivar distinct with foliage interest in the spring and summer as well as glorious autumn colour. These specimens are trained as full standard trees on a clear stem.
As with most Sweet Gum trees, Stared alternative leaves not dissimilar to Maples. The leaves are deeply cut and distinctively star-shaped turning fabulous shades of scarlet and deep red in the autumn. The tree is densely branching and its bark features deep grooves that give it a unique appearance. During the spring, it produces in inconspicuous pinkish flowers. Following flowering, round spiky seed capsules form that measure approximately 2 centimetres in diameter. During the autumn, the foliage turns brilliant shades of orange, red, dark burgundy, and reddish purple. Some years there is even a mix of yellow.

Sweet Gum Stared grows to a height of 20 meters with a canopy width of 12 meters. It features a narrow, pyramid crown and grows in a pyramid fashion. It does not mid pruning if you wish to maintain the full standard shape.

How to Care for Liquidambar Styraciflua Stared
Liquidambar Stared does best when planted in full sun but it will tolerate partial shade. However, to attain the most brilliant autumn colours it should be placed in a location where it receives at least eight hours of sun per day. The tree prefers well-draining soil that is fertile. During first year of planting, keep it evenly moist to encourage root growth. Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant. It requires no pruning to maintain its good looks.
