St John’s Wort Tricolour is a low-growing semi-evergreen shrub with variegated foliage and bright buttery yellow flowers in summer. It suits borders, ground cover, and containers in country style and modern gardens.
Hypericum Moserianum is from the Hypericaceae family that’s also known as St John’s Wort or Gold Flower. It’s native to Asia but has been grown here since around 1887. The Tricolour variety has variegated cream, pink, and white leaves on red stems. The foliage is semi-evergreen which means it will stay on the plant in warmer climates.
The blooms are cheerful bright yellow with red anthers each measuring 5-6 cms across. Flowers appear in mid-summer and last until the autumn attracting bees and other pollinators.
This is a handy little shrub that fills low borders and empty spaces without fuss and is sure to stand out with its multi-coloured foliage.
Height and Spread of Hypericum Moserianum Tricolor
St John’s Wort Tricolour is a dwarf variety that will reach 50 cm in height and a little less in spread.
How Hardy is Hypericum Moserianum Tricolor

How To Use Hypericum Moserianum Tricolor
The golden flowers suit cottage garden style planting and its bushy habit suits informal planting schemes. Because it doesn’t get taller than half a metre it’s a handy space filler for a border and creates ground cover to protect exposed soils.
You can grow this in a well-watered and fed container too. It’s a good choice for wildlife-friendly low-maintenance gardens.
How To Care For Hypericum Moserianum Tricolor
Hypericum Moserianum Tricolour is not fussy about soil types and will grow in the majority of well-drained moist soils.
It prefers full sun to partial shade and doesn’t require pruning unless you want to restrict the spread.
Gently cut it back after the flowers have fallen to shape or remove dead branches and apply a layer of mulch to the roots in early spring to boost heath, retain moisture, and block out weed competition.
