Hellebores (Botanical name: Helleborus) are commonly known as the Christmas Rose due to their beautiful winter flowers. Hellebores are perennial plants. They are generally evergreen and thrive in shadier parts of the garden. Hellebores produce beautiful cup-shaped flowers from late winter until early spring and have one of the longest lasting winter flowering periods.
The Double Ellen varieties of Hellebores are relatively new double-flowering additions from Holland (breeder Ellen Akerboom). Characteristics include many unique colours and double-flowers with ruffled petals. Additionally, the Double Ellen varieties have long flower stems (so good for using as cut flowers) and flowers that keep their ornamental value even after the flowering season. Hellebore Double Ellen White produces large pure-white flowers with a slight flush of green at the throat & ruffled petals. We also stock Double Ellen Hellebores in pink, pink spotted, Hellebore red and purple.
Height and Spread of Hellebore Double Ellen White
This striking and elegant evergreen perennial is compact and clump-forming: its expected maximum height and spread are circa 35 centimetres.
How Hardy is Hellebore Double Ellen White
Fully hardy in the United Kingdom, Helleborus Double Ellen White is surprisingly tough and resilient for such a delicate-looking plant.
How To Use Hellebore Double Ellen White
Ideal for adding interest to the garden or patio during the time where there is not much interest to spare, Helleborus Double Ellen White will stand out in the winter landscape with its gorgeous large white flowers. This evergreen perennial is suited for growing in containers as well as directly in the garden soil, especially when combined with other plants with winter or early-spring interest. As a variety with one of the longest-lasting winter-flowering periods, Helleborus Double Ellen White is also an excellent choice if you want to attract winter pollinators to your garden.
How To Care For Hellebore Double Ellen White
Thriving in the shadier parts of the garden, Helleborus Double Ellen White prefers partial shade and will do best in a spot in the garden that is not exposed to direct sunlight. Like most Hellebores, this variety also isn’t picky about the type of soil, although it does do best in heavier, fertile soil mixed with compost.
