Carpinus Betulus more commonly known as Hornbeam, is a large deciduous tree with attractive foliage that is renowned for its autumn colour. However, these particular topiary spiral specimens we have for sale have been trained as topiary, retaining all the noteworthy attributes of Hornbeam, but formed in a shape of a highly decorative topiary spiral.
Hornbeam Topiary Spirals have a dense, bushy habit and lush foliage. The ovate, intricately ribbed leaves turn from medium green to rich shades of brown and yellow in the autumn. Although Hornbeam is deciduous, the autumn leaves remain on the branches rather than dropping off like most trees.
This Hornbeam topiary spiral is quite easy to care for. Grown in a container, it fares well both in full sun and partial shade. When grown under optimal conditions, even if it’s in a large container, Carpinus Betulus Spirals will grace your garden for years to come. Hornbeam Topiary Spirals are notoriously low-maintenance and don’t require any extensive pruning to keep their stunning shape. Just trim them once a year. Carpinus Betulus Spirals, even though trained and more compact, kept all the noteworthy qualities of Hornbeam trees. Not only that Hornbeam is fully hardy in the United Kingdom and rarely affected by pests and diseases, Hornbeam is also the recipient of the Award of Garden Merit by Royal Horticultural Society.
Unlike tree-form Carpinus Betulus which can, in its original form, achieve over 12 meters in height, the trained Hornbeam Topiary Spirals stay compact as they mature. Their relatively small size makes these topiaries ideal for smaller gardens or patios.
Offering luxurious foliage with a striking fall colour, Hornbeam Topiary Spirals are quite unique. Their spiral shape and the colour-changing leaves bring drama and contrast to any garden. The eye-catching appearance of these topiaries makes them ideal as a specimen or focal plant in your garden, particularily when planted in pairs. Easy to maintain in perfect shape, these gorgeous topiary spirals can be used to adorn mixed borders, patios, and balconies. To create an impressive entrance to your home, place Hornbeam Topiary Spirals on each side of your front door. If you’re looking for more unusually shaped trees, make sure to take a look at our impressive collection of topiaries, particularly the unique cloud trees.
