Ginkgo Biloba Tit (also Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi') is a rare, dwarf variety of the ancient genus Ginkgo Biloba or Maidenhair tree). Ginkgo Biloba Tit ('Chi Chi') forms a compact, pyramidal tree with a dense branching habit. This compact variety of Ginkgo Biloba is an excellent choice for growing in containers, whether for terraces, patios or smaller urban gardens. Although dwarf, the sense of drama as the leaves change colour is no less dramatic.
Ginkgo trees have long been prized for their autumn foliage when the beautiful Ginkgo Biloba fan-shaped leaves turn a magnificent deep rich yellow. The leaves tend to drop all at once, so rather dramatically, you are suddenly left with a bare, sculpturally beautiful tree surrounded by a deep yellow carpet (of fallen leaves). The effect can be quite breath-taking, particularly stunning on patios, terraces or courtyards.
The Ginkgo genus is an ancient one, dating from the Jurassic era. At one point in fact, it was believed to be extinct, but was luckily re-discovered in the early 18th Century. Their propensity to survive all this time with only a minimum of evolutionary changes shows Ginkgo trees are extremely hardy indeed. Ginkgos are disease and pollution resistant. When planted in the ground, they tend to cast down deep roots to help withstand high winds.
Ginkgo Biloba Tit (Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi') is a deciduous tree, a member of the deciduous conifer family and is native to China. The Ginkgo Biloba Tit (also Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi') variety tends to be pyramidal in shape when young, spreading more widely with age. Its small fan-shaped leaves are reminiscent of the delicate maidenhair fern and turn a brilliant golden yellow in autumn. Ginkgo Biloba trees are believed to be 150 million years old and even today, are capable of living for up to 2000 years.
Ginkgo Biloba Tit (Ginkgo biloba 'Chi Chi') is a very rare heritage tree that will dramatically enhance your garden, terrace or outside space.
Ginkgo Biloba Tit (Ginkgo Biloba 'Chi Chi') prefers a sunny position sun and will grow in any well drained moist fertile soil.
