Feijoa Sellowiana or Pineapple Guava is also known as Acca Sellowiana.
Feijoa is an evergreen tree-like shrub with silver green leaves and pink/red fluffy flowers in Summer. Feijoa Sellowiana or Pineapple Guava has one of the most exotic flowers you will find that is hardy enough to grow in our UK climate. It is drought tolerant once established, but a lack of water will cause fruit to drop off. Feijoa does not like to be kept too wet. The rather exotic looking flowers come in early summer and have fleshy petals. Widely cultivated in New Zealand, this evergreen prefers sheltered partially shady areas.
Evergreen Acca Sellowiana can grow to form a screen or a dense hedge or into a sizable tree with a single trunk. If not pruned, it can grow to a height of 15 feet. The leaves are egg-shaped and silver in colour. They can grow up to 3 inches long. In addition, Pineapple Guava
produces attractive, showy flowers in May. They have fleshy white / pink / red petals and scarlet stamens. The fruits are round shaped and about 3 inches long with waxy green bark containing a green juicy pulp.
Acca Sellowiana is native to Southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It adapts to most soil types and grows well in full or partial sun exposure. The plant does not require extra watering unless grown in dry climates.
Pineapple Guava is a versatile plant that remains attractive throughout the year. In addition, the plant is resistant to pests and diseases. It requires minimal maintenance and is a great shrub for areas that experience hot and dry climates.
Feijoa Sellowiana responds well to pruning and can be manipulated to any shape. They are great for hedges and as standalone trees. Normally the fruits drop once they are ripe. However, you can pluck them before they ripen and let them ripen indoors. The fruits taste like minty pineapple, which you can eat by cutting into half and scooping out the pulp.
We deliver our Pineapple Guava plants throughout the UK and Ireland.
