Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador

Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador or Oleaster Eleador, will light up your garden all year round with its striking variegated foliage! This hard-working evergreen shrub combines large stunning leaves with a vigorous growth habit, and the added bonus of extremely fragrant flowers late in the year, making it a great specimen or hedging plant. 

Originating in France as a cross between Korean and Japanese native plants, Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador provides year-round interest with its evergreen variegated foliage. The leaves are up to 15 cm in length and when mature are a striking greenish-yellow with an irregular edge of a darker green. This colouring persists throughout the year for a brilliant winter show. The small white flowers of Oleaster Eleador which bloom in late autumn are barely noticeable, except for their strong sweet scent which is irresistible! They are followed in spring with 1.5 cm oval dark red fruits which taste like sweet cherries. 

Hardy in most parts of the UK, Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador will grow to a mature height of 1-2 metres and spread of 1.3-1.8 metres within 10 years. Prune to desired shape and size if necessary in early spring or in June. Plant Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil. Tolerant of both salt spray and pollution, it will do equally well in coastal areas and city locations. Since it is deer-resistant, it is a good choice for country gardens as well. 

Elaeagnus Ebbingei Eleador is such a striking plant with its brilliant variegated foliage that it can be used to brighten up dark corners of a garden, especially since it will happily grow in a partially shaded spot. Find a location where Oleaster Eleador can grow to its full size unimpeded to cut down on pruning tasks.
