As this plant grows in the Atlas Mountain region of Africa, it will withstand low temperatures - even heavy frosts - so it's no surprise that this beautiful palm has been adopted by European gardeners as a hardy palm of choice.

As this is a slow growing, low, bushy palm it is suitable to keep in pots or planters and can be planted directly in the garden in well-draining soil.

Chamaerops are very slow growing bushy palms which means they are ideal for pots or in well-draining beds, and particularly good for architectural interest in raised sleeper beds. Provided the roots are kept dry over winter they should be fully hardy in well-draining soil in the UK.
