Cercis Chinensis Avondale is a small, unusual ornamental tree (or you can view it as a large shrub) which originates from China, hence it’s more common name Chinese Redbud.
Cercis Chinensis Avondale is beloved by many a gardener in the know for its spectacular display of deep pink flowers which arrive in mid spring (usually around March to April). The flowers burst dramatically into bloom on bare stems before the arrival of the glossy dark green heart shaped foliage.
Cercis Chinensis Avondale is best grown as a small ornamental tree. It has an attractive branching habit and needs little pruning. It prefers a sunny spot. When planting, do make sure the soil you plant the tree in is rich, fertile and well-draining. Chinese Redbud won’t thrive in poorly drained soil especially in summer.
Cercis Chinensis Avondale can grow to a height of around 3 metres by 3 metres wide over 20 years and is fully Hardy.
