Cotinus Coggygria Golden Spirit Smoke Bush

Cotinus Coggygria Golden Spirit is a recent addition to the smoke bush family, favoured for its stunning autumn colour. Cotinus or Smoke bush varieties are universally loved by British gardeners, and with good reason. These exceptionally beautiful deciduous shrubs offer year-round visual interest. They are robust and hardy, and they are not demanding when it comes to their care. Cotinus Golden Spirit is no exception: although it was first introduced as recently as 2000 in the Netherlands, it has received the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by Royal Horticultural Society.

Smoke Tree Golden Spirit is best known for its foliage. Its rounded leaves flaunting spectacular colours throughout the seasons. In the spring, the foliage unfolds bronze, turning to a rich golden yellow through to autumn, when this shrub puts on a most colourful display. The once golden leaves turn to various hues of warm orange and crimson red, beautifully complemented by different shades of a lovely coral pink.

With a moderate growth rate, Smoke Tree Golden Spirit will achieve a  height of 2.5 metres with a spread of up to 2 metres. It can grow to be larger than that if left unchecked, but with routine pruning, the size is easily kept under control.

Smoke Tree Golden Spirit is fully hardy in the United Kingdom, and it can survive in areas where winter temperatures drop as low as 15 degrees below zero.

Versatile and eye-catching, Cotinus Golden Spirit can be used to add colour and depth to your garden. Its multi-coloured foliage pairs beautifully with evergreen shrubs in mixed shrub borders, as its bold and vibrant hues will only be further enhanced by the textured and dark green leaves of its companions. How To Care For Cotinus Golden Spirit
Although this deciduous shrub has a lot to offer, it does not require much to flourish. It tolerates partial shade, but best results are achieved by planting Smoke Tree Golden Spirit in full sun, as it will encourage vivid foliage colour. Performs best in well-drained, fertile soils.
